Comparison
CoreCode vs OpenRouter for Claude Code
Yes, if you can pay in yuan. OpenRouter charges Anthropic's list price for Claude plus a fee when you buy credits; CoreCode charges about 28% of Anthropic's price on its cheapest Claude group, and every request is answered by an official Anthropic Claude account, not a substitute model. OpenRouter is the better fit if you need card or crypto payment, models from other vendors, or provider failover.
- OpenRouter lists Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2 input and $10 output per million tokens, the same as Anthropic, and charges 5.5% when you buy credits on its Standard plan.
- CoreCode's cheapest Claude group charges ¥3.8 input and ¥19 output per million tokens on Sonnet 5.5, about $0.56 and $2.79 at the ¥6.8 per dollar rate its pricing page uses.
- CoreCode takes payment only through Alipay and WeChat Pay in yuan, at ¥1 = $1 of credit. OpenRouter accepts cards, Alipay and USDC.
- Some low-priced "Claude Code" plans point Claude Code at a different model; check what answers with the verification guide.
Side by side
Prices are per million tokens (MTok) for Claude Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1. CoreCode's prices are its Claude 满血(仅限CC) group, the cheapest Claude group, converted at the ¥6.8 per dollar its pricing page uses. They are a snapshot at the time of writing; /docs/en/pricing/ has the current table.
| CoreCode (仅限CC group) | OpenRouter | Anthropic direct | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sonnet 5.5 input / output | ¥3.8 / ¥19 (about $0.56 / $2.79) | $2 / $10, plus the credit fee | $2 / $10 |
| Opus 5.5 input / output | ¥7.6 / ¥38 (about $1.12 / $5.59) | $4 / $20, plus the credit fee | $4 / $20 |
| Fable 5.1 input / output | ¥19 / ¥95 (about $2.79 / $13.97) | $10 / $50, plus the credit fee | $10 / $50 |
| Who answers the request | Official Anthropic Claude accounts only | The provider OpenRouter routes to: Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex or Azure for Claude | Anthropic |
| Prompt cache | One Claude Code session stays on one account; see Caching and billing | Follow-up requests stay with the same provider while its cache is warm | Per Anthropic's prompt caching |
| Payment | Alipay and WeChat Pay, yuan only, ¥1 = $1 of credit | Cards, Alipay, USDC; fee on credit purchases | Anthropic's own billing |

| Model choice | Claude, plus GPT, Gemini and Grok groups | 600+ models from 80+ providers on paid plans | Claude only |
The CoreCode prices are what you pay in yuan; the dollar figures are conversions for comparison, not a price CoreCode charges. OpenRouter's own page lists two Claude Sonnet 5.5 rows at $2.20 / $11 on Bedrock, Vertex and Azure, so the provider that serves a request can change the unit price. OpenRouter's cache read and write prices are on each model page and are not repeated here. Anthropic's prices are on its pricing page; see also Claude API pricing.
How OpenRouter bills
OpenRouter says it does not mark up inference: you pay the provider's listed price, as stated in its FAQ. Its pricing page puts the cost on the credit purchase instead: 5.5% on the Standard plan and 8% on Business, charged when you buy credits and never on individual requests. The FAQ adds that refunds for unused credits can be requested within 24 hours, platform fees are not refundable, and OpenRouter may expire credits one year after purchase.
Who answers the request
OpenRouter routes each request across providers. By default it weighs price, throughput, latency and reliability, and it retries on another provider if a request fails; see provider routing. For Claude Code, its integration guide says the setup is only guaranteed to work with the Anthropic first-party provider and recommends making Anthropic the top-priority provider.
CoreCode has one upstream for Claude, official Anthropic Claude accounts, and no routing to other models. Its groups differ in which clients they admit and in price, not in which model answers. Do not take that on trust: How to check whether a Claude relay is genuine gives a script that runs against any relay, and CoreCode runs a fingerprint check (ModelTrace) on its Claude models every 3 days.
Not every plan sold for Claude Code does this. Z.ai's GLM Coding Plan guide points Claude Code at Z.ai's endpoint and maps Claude Code's Opus, Sonnet and Haiku settings to GLM models, so the answers come from GLM, not Claude. That may be what you want at that price, but it is a different model.
When to choose OpenRouter
- You cannot pay with Alipay or WeChat Pay. OpenRouter takes cards and USDC as well as Alipay; CoreCode takes only Alipay and WeChat Pay, in yuan.
- You want many models behind one key. OpenRouter lists 600+ models from 80+ providers on its paid plans.
- You want automatic failover between providers when one is down.
- You already have provider keys: bring your own key usage is free up to $25,000 of list-price inference a month on Standard and Business, then 5% above that.
- You need an invoice or a purchase order; OpenRouter lists these under Enterprise.
When to choose CoreCode
- You use Claude Code every day and the Anthropic price is the main cost. On Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 the 仅限CC group costs 28% of the official price at the time of writing.
- You can pay in yuan with Alipay or WeChat Pay. Nothing on the CoreCode pages says otherwise about regions or payment, so readers outside China should treat yuan-only payment as a real limit.
- You want every request answered by Claude, with a sticky account per session so the prompt cache keeps hitting.
- You want each request's model, tokens, cache hits and cost in a usage log, plus a public status page.
The cheapest group admits only the Claude Code CLI, IDE plugins and the desktop app. For the SDK, curl or other tools, use the 可外接 group at a slightly higher price; both use the same accounts.
Switch Claude Code to CoreCode in 3 steps
- Top up and create a key. Pay with Alipay or WeChat Pay on the wallet page; the ¥29.9 newcomer pack gives $50 of credit for 7 days, once per person. Then create a key on API Keys in the Claude 满血(仅限CC) group. The new user guide walks through both, and pricing has the live prices.
- Set two variables. Put this in
~/.claude/settings.json, merging into any existingenvsection:
If you used OpenRouter before, remove its{ "env": { "ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL": "https://corecode.live", "ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN": "sk-your-key" } }ANTHROPIC_BASE_URLand token first, and run/logoutif you had signed in with an Anthropic account. Details are in Claude Code. - Check. Open a new terminal, run
claude -p "reply ok", then/statusin Claude Code: the base URL should read https://corecode.live. The request appears in the console's usage log.
FAQ
Is there a cheaper alternative to OpenRouter for Claude Code?
CoreCode's cheapest Claude group costs about 28% of Anthropic's price, and OpenRouter charges Anthropic's list price plus a fee on credit purchases. The catch is payment: CoreCode accepts only Alipay and WeChat Pay in yuan, at ¥1 = $1 of credit. See pricing for current prices.
Does CoreCode ever answer with a model other than Claude?
No. Both Claude groups use official Anthropic Claude accounts, and the models are checked with a fingerprint test every 3 days. You can test any relay yourself with the verification guide.
Does prompt caching work on both?
On CoreCode, one Claude Code session stays on one account, so the cache keeps hitting; see Caching and billing. OpenRouter says follow-up requests stay with the same provider while its cache is warm, so a long session can stay cached there too.
What does OpenRouter charge on top of Claude's price?
Nothing per request, according to OpenRouter. It charges a fee when you buy credits: 5.5% on Standard and 8% on Business, per its pricing page.
Are plans like the Z.ai GLM Coding Plan the same thing?
No. They point Claude Code at another vendor's endpoint and map its model names to a different model, such as GLM. It is cheaper, but it is not Claude. Use the verification guide to see what answers.
Can I pay CoreCode by card from outside China?
The CoreCode pages list only Alipay and WeChat Pay, in yuan. They do not list card payments, so assume there is no card option unless the console shows one.
